Lumbar radiculopathy, commonly known as “sciatica”, refers to the pain caused by the irritation or compression of the nerve root at the site where it exits the spine.

This is usually as a result of a herniated disc. As lumbar nerve roots exit the spine and travel down to the hips, legs and feet, you may experience muscle weakness, pain, numbness or tingling in these areas.
